Earthway Experience

In my late teens and early 20's I became very interested in solar power and "off the grid" systems. I subscribed to Mother Earth News and did so for many years. I dreamed of the log house in the wilderness with solar panels and wind power.

Many years later after moving to Sweden with my family, we purchased some land on Lake Siljan in Dalarna. There is no electricity, running water (except for the small stream) or of course no sewer.

We wanted to be able to keep some food cold in the new cabin and also to have a few lights during our long cold Swedish winters.

This last summer we have bought 2 - 30 w solar panels , 3 - 75ah marine batteries and plan on one more panel as well as adding a wind generator.

Beginning of the Earthway Experience Blog

In 1972 I saw the movie - Jeremiah Johnson. I was 12 years old and since that time I have wanted to live a more simple life, to be more self-sufficient, to learn about the wilderness and most of all- to build my own log house.

A Lakota elder - a teacher of mine - has taught me that life is a series of experiences. We should live these experiences without judgment - but to learn from them. Ask your self - "Do I want to live thought THAT again?!" Together these single individual life experiences make up the whole of our "Life" Experience - and this is what forms our true life.
